EXRS 2014 – New deadlines for Abstracts submission and Reduced Registration Fee

The next European Conference on X-Ray Spectrometry (EXRS) will take place in Bologna, Italy from June 15 to June 20, 2014. The Local Organizing Committee is chaired by Jorge E. Fernandez. The homepage of this conference is now online and can be found following this link: EXRS-2014.
The Call for Abstracts and Papers is likewise online. The submission procedure follows the one known from EXRS 2012 using the EasyChair conference system.

ALTECH 2014 – program available

The ALTECH 2014 conference – Analytical Techniques for Precise Characterization of Nanomaterials – is taking place as symposium H at the E-MRS spring meeting in Lille, France, from May 26-30, 2014. In line with previous ALTECH symposia the 2014 topics address various techniques for the reliable analysis of nano-scaled materials including X-ray spectrometry.

The E-MRS spring meeting deadline for the abstract submission of your contributions to ALTECH 2014 was January 16, 2014.

Gerhard Ertl Young Investigator Award 2014 for excellent research in surface science

The Surface Science Division of the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) announces the bestowal of the Gerhard Ertl Young Investigator Award 2014 for excellent research in surface science.
This award recognizes a young researcher for his/her outstanding research in surface science. The award is supported by the journal Surface Science, and consists of a certificate and a renumeration of EUR 3,000. Runner ups will receive EUR 500 each. The winner will be announced at the “DPG Condensed Matter Section Spring Meeting” in Dresden, Germany, 30 March – April 4, 2014.

Young researchers are invited to apply – the procedure is as follows:

  • The applicant’s PhD certificate must not date back longer than 6 years from the first day of the conference (March 30, 2014).
  • Young investigators who wish to compete for the “Gerhard Ertl Young Investigator Award” must submit an extended CV (including list of publications, talks, awards, professional experience) and an abstract for a talk (DPG abstract format) plus a two page description of the work to the vice-chairperson of the DPG Surface Science Division (a pdf attachment should be sent to Martin Wolf, wolf(at)fhi-berlin.mpg.de). The email must be received no later than December 1st, 2013. The abstract must also be submitted as a regular contribution to the DPG Spring Meeting of the Surface Science Division following the standard procedure.
  • The candidate must also arrange for two confidential support letters to be sent directly to the vice-chairperson of the DPG Surface Science Division. These letters need to be received electronically no later than December 1st, 2013
  • The prize committee will select up to five top candidates and these will be asked to give 30-minute (25 min. talk and 5 min. discussion) oral presentations in a special session at the DPG Spring Meeting of the Surface Science Division.
  • The prize committee will select the winner and she/he will receive a certificate plus the cash prize of EUR 3,000. The runner ups will receive EUR 500 as recognition of their efforts.

Announcement of Innovation-Award on Synchrotron Radiation 2013

The Society of Friends of Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin announces the bestowal of the Innovation-Award in the field of procurement and usage of synchrotron radiation. The award is to be granted for an excellent achievement which has contributed significantly to the further development of techniques, methods or uses of synchrotron radiation. Scientists and engineers from research institutions, universities, and industrial establishments within Europe are addressed.

Furthermore, this society announces the ‘Ernst-Eckhard-Koch-Prize’, which is bestowed for outstanding doctoral theses in the field of research with synchrotron radiation performed at either the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) or HASYLAB at DESY, Hamburg, which were completed during the current or past year.

EXRS 2012 – preliminary program online

The scientific program includes 20 oral and 2 poster sessions and will start Monday morning at 9:30 a.m.
On Tuesday afternoon EXSA’s General Assembly will take place.

EXRS 2012 – Call for papers

In 2012, the European Conference on X-Ray Spectrometry will take place in Vienna from 18th – 22nd June 2012. Vienna is one of the most popular congress cities in the world. Located in the heart of Europe, it is a cosmopolitan city of great cultural diversity, a city of 9 universities and many unique research centers and seat of many international organizations.

The 15th EXRS conference is devoted to the exchange of information and experience on the emerging and innovative techniques in the field of X-ray spectrometry and related areas. The conference will provide a framework in which scientists of various research areas will be able to convene and discuss X-ray techniques and their successful applications. A rich scientific and social program will allow experienced experts, young scientists, and industrial exhibitors to exchange views and start new collaborative projects.

PRORA 2011 announcement

The next conference on process-oriented X-ray analytics in Berlin will take place November 24/25, 2011. (The conference language is German.) Industrial applications of X-ray analytics will be a main focus of this year’s conference beside the process-oriented X-ray analytics for regenerative energy sources and storages as well as thin-layered solar cells.
