PostDoc position at PTB in Berlin available

With a starting date as soon as possible, PTB's Department "X-ray Metrology with Synchrotron Radiation" is looking for a candidate to fill the following position at our Berlin-Adlershof site for an initial duration of three years:

Scientist (postdoc)
with expertise in the field of X-ray analytical techniques

PTB uses synchrotron radiation produced by the MLS and BESSY II electron storage rings in Berlin-Adlershof for metrological purposes. These include the methodic improvement of various traceable X-ray spectrometry techniques and their application in analyzing environmental aerosols, nanostructured semiconductor samples and biomedical samples, as well as the further development of energy conversion and storage materials, such as batteries, under operando conditions.

Your tasks:

  • Characterizing and utilizing novel wavelength-dispersive spectrometers with synchrotron radiation
  • Autonomously designing, performing and enhancing X-ray spectrometric measurements under grazing incidence/grazing emission conditions
  • Further developing high-resolution X-ray spectrometry (XAFS, XES, RIXS)
  • Analyzing experimental data, modeling and interpreting results, and enhancing evaluation methods and algorithms
  • Collaborating with other organizations within the framework of European and national project partnerships
  • Presenting research findings at national and international congresses and workshops
  • Actively participating in project management and acquisition activities
