PostDoc position "XUV radiometry" available at PTB in Berlin, Germany

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the national metrology institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks, and it promotes progress and reliability in metrology for society, economy, and science.

In Berlin-Adlershof, PTB uses synchrotron radiation from the electron storage rings Metrology Light Source (MLS), and BESSY II for metrology. In Department "Radiometry with Synchrotron Radiation" the following position is to be filled at the earliest possible date:

Scientist (m/f/d) with PhD in the field of physics or comparable

The position is limited to three years. The place of employment is Berlin-Adlershof.

The working group EUV-Radiometry develops measurement techniques for the characterization of optical elements and detectors, as well as the investigation of material properties in the spectral range from 1 nm to 40 nm. Applications are mainly investigations of optical components for semiconductor lithography with EUV radiation and the development of methods for the investigation of structured surfaces by light scattering. The group uses two monochromator beamlines at MLS and BESSY II. It operates the EUV reflectometer and a scatterometer ellipsometer for the measurement of reflection and scattering under arbitrary polarization directions.

Field of activity:

  • scientific processing and coordination of European third-party funded projects with leading industrial partners in the field of semiconductor technology
  • Conception, execution, and evaluation of experiments with EUV and soft X-rays
  • Modeling of light scattering on structured surfaces for nanometrology
  • scientific supervision of doctoral candidates, students, and engineers

requirement profile:

  • a completed doctorate in physics or comparable, with a very good degree
  • experimental experience with synchrotron and / or X-ray radiation is advantageous
  • very good knowledge of modern scripting languages (e.g., Python)
  • Ability to work on scientific projects and an independent, reliable way of working
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills and the ability to present scientific results at conferences
  • Willingness to travel on business at home and abroad
  • good German and English language skills in spoken and written
