two positions for physicists available at PTB in Berlin

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) uses synchrotron radiation of the electron storage ring BESSY in Berlin-Adlershof for metrology and spectroscopy purposes. Department 7.2 “Cryophysics and Spectrometry” is offering two positions:

  1. physicist, doctoral candidate (position limited to 3 years)
  2. post-doctoral candidate (position limited to 2 years)

for the further development and application of X-ray spectrometry at BESSY. The positions are offered within the scope of a third-party funded research project and will commence as soon as possible.

Tasks:

  • Development and application of X-ray spectrometry under grazing incidence when using synchrotron radiation
  • Further development and application of quantitative X-ray spectrometry
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with cooperation partners in international projects

Requirements:

  • Studies in physics (e.g. German “Diplom” or Master) with a doctoral degree
  • Knowledge and practical experience in at least one of the following fields: X-ray spectroscopy, spectroscopy with synchrotron radiation
  • Interest in the further development of measurement procedures and use of complex instrumentation
  • Pronounced capacity to work in a team and interest in interdisciplinary cooperation with internal and external partners
  • Good command of German and English
