It is with great sadness that we learned that Professor Dr. Horst Ebel recently passed away.

Horst Ebel was the first distinguished laureate of EXSA’s Outstanding Career Award in X-ray spectrometry. He studied Technical physics at the Technical University Vienna (Austria), where he received his Ph.D. in 1960 and where he started his scientific career. In 1971, he became Professor and Director at the newly founded Institute of Technical Physics in Vienna. He has co-authored over 200 scientific publications. He had been a long-standing member of the editorial board of the journal X-ray Spectrometry as well as of other scientific journals. In 1998, he received the Birks Award at the Denver X-ray Conference “for his many years of service to the X-ray analytical community”.
We have lost a valuable colleague and mentor in the field of X-ray spectrometry and we will honor his memory.
