{"id":2571200,"date":"2016-06-23T19:00:11","date_gmt":"2016-06-23T17:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.exsa.hu\/news\/?p=2571200"},"modified":"2016-07-01T10:21:22","modified_gmt":"2016-07-01T08:21:22","slug":"exsa-awards-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.exsa.hu\/news\/?p=2571200","title":{"rendered":"EXSA awards 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"span12\">During the conference dinner of the EXRS 2016 the new elected president of EXSA, Michael Kolbe, bestowed the EXSA awards of 2016.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"span6\">\nThe EXSA award on outstanding achievement in X-ray Spectrometry was awarded to <a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.de\/citations?user=uI01QFwAAAAJ&#038;hl=de&#038;oi=ao\" title=\"Koen Janssens at Google Scholar\" target=\"_blank\">Koen Janssens<\/a>, Belgium.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.exsa.hu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/KJanssens2016EXSA.png\" rel=\"lytebox\" title=\"Bestowing ceremony of the EXSA award on outstanding achievement in X-ray Spectrometry to Prof. Koen Janssens (right) with EXSA's president Michael Kolbe\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.exsa.hu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/KJanssens2016EXSA-300x267.png\" alt=\"Koen Janssens &copy;EXSA 20160623\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2571201\" title=\"EXSA award bestowal to Koen Janssens\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nProfessor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Koen_Janssens\" title=\"Koen Janssens\" target=\"_blank\">Koen Janssens<\/a> studied chemistry in Antwerp and was already during his master thesis entitled &#8216;An Expert System for the automated interpretation of Electron induced X-ray spectra&#8217; and his PhD thesis on &#8216;Automated Data Handling in X ray Analysis: An integration of Expert Systems and conventional software&#8217; involved in X-ray spectrometry.<br \/>\nAfter 15 years in various positions at the Belgian National Science Fund in Brussels he came back to the University of Antwerp, where he became first an Assistant Research professor. Meanwhile he is Full Professor there.<br \/>\nAccording to the ISI Web-of-Science he has published as author\/coauthor more than 200 regular and review papers in high impact journals receiving so far more than 4000 citations and achieved an h-factor better than 35.<br \/>\nIn recent years one of his main scientific focuses was the investigation of art objects. His paper on the <em>Use of microscopic XRF for non-destructive analysis in Art and Archaeometry<\/em> has almost 150 citations over the last 15 years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"span6\">\nThe young scientist (Post-Doc) award was bestowed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Dimosthenis_Sokaras\" title=\"Dimosthenis Sokaras\" target=\"_blank\">Dimosthenis<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.de\/citations?user=sIyWXLsAAAAJ&#038;hl=de&#038;oi=ao\" title=\"Dimosthenis Sokaras at Google Scholar\" target=\"_blank\">Sokaras<\/a>, USA.<br \/>\nHe studied physics in Athens, Greece and started his scientific career at the National Center For Scientific Research &#8220;DEMOKRITOS&#8221;.<br \/>\nDimosthenis Sokaras received his PhD diploma in 2010 (NTUA in collaboration with N.C.S.R \u201cDemokritos\u201d) after submitting a thesis entitled \u201dDevelopment of new techniques for elemental analysis and inner-shell atomic physics research using proton-induced x-rays\u201d. Since 2010 he has been working at Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory as research associate and associate staff scientist.
